430 Stainless Steel Sheet
Cost-Effective Ferritic Stainless Steel
As a representative ferritic stainless steel, Type 430 offers these core advantages:
- Cost Efficiency:Nickel-free composition, priced at 60%-70% of 304 stainless steel.
- Corrosion Resistance: 16%-18% chromium content forms a dense oxide layer, resisting atmospheric corrosion and nitric acid environments.
- Physical Properties: 50% higher thermal conductivity than austenitic grades, 30% lower thermal expansion coefficient.
- Formability: 92% qualification rate for deep drawing processes, ideal for precision stamping.

Analysis of Performance Characteristics and Applications of 430 Stainless Steel Plate
1. Performance Characteristics
1.1 Corrosion Resistance
430 stainless steel contains 16%-18% chromium. In dry environments, it forms a stable oxide film, exhibiting good resistance to atmospheric corrosion, but its resistance to strong acids and alkalis is weak. It is weakly magnetic in the annealed state, and its magnetism increases after cold working.
1.2 Heat Resistance
It maintains stability in high-temperature environments of 200-600℃, making it suitable for high-temperature components such as exhaust systems and mufflers.
1.3 Processing Performance
Its ferritic structure makes it easy to stamp and bend, but care must be taken to avoid hot cracking during welding, and post-weld heat treatment is required. Its thermal conductivity is better than austenitic stainless steel, and its coefficient of thermal expansion is low.
1.4 Mechanical Properties
Tensile strength ≥450MPa, moderate yield strength, good elongation, suitable for cold forming.
2. Main Applications
2.1 Home Appliances and Kitchenware
Widely used in microwave oven liners, washing machine drums, cookware, etc., offering both cost-effectiveness and durability.
2.2 Architectural Decoration
Suitable for low-maintenance applications such as handrails, baseboards, and outdoor signage; surface finishes can be brushed or mirrored.
2.3 Automotive Parts
Used in exhaust pipes, decorative strips, etc., providing high-temperature resistance and meeting aesthetic requirements.
2.4 Industrial Equipment
Manufacturing chemical storage tanks, pipelines, and fuel burner components; performs excellently in mildly corrosive environments.
3. Limitations
430 stainless steel is prone to pitting corrosion in chlorine-containing environments and has poor low-temperature toughness, making it unsuitable for high-load or extremely corrosive environments.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: How to choose between 430 and 304?
A: Opt for 430 in budget-sensitive, non-aggressive environments. Choose 304 for acidic food contact or medical applications.
Q2: Welding precautions?
A: Use ER430 filler wire with 150-200°C preheating to prevent cracking.
Q3: Is 430 magnetic?
A: Yes, as a ferritic alloy, it exhibits strong magnetic properties.
Q4: How to maintain its surface?
A: Regular cleaning with mild soap and water prevents staining. Avoid abrasive cleaners to preserve the finish.
