Performance Characteristics and Applications of Carbon Steel Pipes
1. Performance Characteristics
1.1 Mechanical Properties
Strength and Toughness: The properties of carbon steel pipes vary depending on their carbon content. Low-carbon steel (carbon content ≤0.25%) has good plasticity and high toughness, suitable for low-load applications; medium-carbon steel (0.25%~0.60%) has higher strength, and its overall performance can be improved through heat treatment; high-carbon steel (>0.60%) has high hardness and strong wear resistance, but poor toughness.
Compression Resistance and Wear Resistance: Carbon steel pipes have high tensile strength and yield strength, capable of withstanding significant pressure. They also have high surface hardness, resisting wear and scratches.
1.2 Corrosion Resistance
Carbon steel pipes have poor corrosion resistance, especially in humid environments or environments containing industrial gases (such as sulfur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide). Surface treatments such as galvanizing and painting are necessary to enhance protection.
1.3 Processing and Cost
Plasticity: Carbon steel pipes can be bent and deformed through heating and cold working, making construction and installation convenient.
Economy: Low raw material cost, mature production process, and more competitive price compared to materials such as stainless steel.
2. Applications
2.1 Building Engineering
Used for structural support, water supply pipelines, HVAC systems, etc., due to its high strength and plasticity, it can adapt to complex shapes and load requirements.
2.2 Oil and Gas Industry
As a pipeline material, it is suitable for high-pressure transmission systems of oil and natural gas due to its excellent pressure resistance.
2.3 Machinery Manufacturing
Medium carbon steel is commonly used for gears and shaft parts (such as motor shafts and crankshafts), while high carbon steel is used for cutting tools (such as saw blades and files) and springs.
2.4 Environmental Protection and Energy Sector
Applied to carbon dioxide transmission pipelines, supporting carbon capture and storage (CCUS) projects, requiring excellent impact toughness.
2.5 Other Fields
It is used in military industry for weapons manufacturing, and in the aerospace field as a structural material, utilizing its strength and processability.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What’s the difference between ERW and seamless carbon steel pipe?
A:
ERW pipes are welded and ideal for low/medium pressure; seamless pipes are stronger and used for high-pressure or critical applications.
Q2: Can you customize pipe length or diameter?
A:
Yes, we support size customization with precision cutting.
Q3: Do you offer pipe coatings or corrosion protection?
A:
Yes, black painted, oiled, or galvanized finish is available.
Q4: What packaging do you use for export pipes?
A:
Pipes are bundled, capped, wrapped, and palletized based on export standard.
Q5: Can I order both round and rectangular tubes together?
A:
Of course. Mixed shapes and sizes in one container are welcome.
