1. Performance Characteristics
1.1 High Strength and Toughness
15-5PH is a precipitation-hardening martensitic stainless steel. After solution treatment and aging, it achieves a tensile strength exceeding 1200 MPa and a yield strength exceeding 1100 MPa. It also maintains excellent transverse toughness and ductility (elongation ≥ 40%), making it suitable for high-load applications.
1.2 Corrosion Resistance
Its high chromium (14-15.5%) and nickel (3.5-5.5%) composition imparts excellent oxidation resistance and chloride stress corrosion resistance. It is particularly stable in acidic and alkaline environments, with corrosion resistance comparable to that of 304 stainless steel.
1.3 Processing and Welding Properties
It exhibits excellent plasticity in the solution state, allowing for complex shapes to be formed through cold forming and conventional machining. Aging treatment after welding restores high strength, resulting in stable joint performance.
2. Main Applications
2.1 Aerospace
It is used in the manufacture of aircraft structural parts, engine components, and landing gear, meeting the requirements of lightweighting and high strength.
2.2 Medical Devices
Due to its biocompatibility and corrosion resistance, it is suitable for surgical instruments, implants, and medical device components.
2.3 Industrial Equipment
Used in valves and chemical containers in the petrochemical industry; processing equipment in the food industry requires corrosion resistance and compliance with hygiene standards.
2.4 Other Applications
Applications requiring high material strength and stability, such as automotive parts and precision instruments.
