I. Performance Characteristics of Monel 400 Alloy Bar

1. Chemical Composition and Structural Properties

Monel 400 is composed of 63%-68% nickel (Ni) and 28%-34% copper (Cu), with small amounts of iron, manganese, and other elements. Its single-phase solid solution structure imparts uniform mechanical properties, avoiding the interfacial weaknesses often seen in multiphase alloys. It has a density of 8.8 g/cm³ and a melting point of approximately 1300-1350°C.

2. Excellent Mechanical Properties

With a tensile strength of 480-760 MPa, a yield strength of 170-585 MPa, and an elongation of 30%-50%, it offers a combination of high strength and ductility. After cold working, it can be restored to plasticity through annealing at 900-1100°C, making it suitable for machining under complex working conditions.

3. Outstanding Corrosion Resistance

The corrosion rate is <0.026mm/year in environments such as seawater, sulfuric acid (concentration <85%), and hydrofluoric acid. Its resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking is superior to that of stainless steel, making it particularly suitable for chemical and marine environments.

II. Main Applications

1. Marine Engineering

Used in the manufacture of desalination equipment, submarine pipelines, and ship fasteners, resisting seawater corrosion and biofouling.

2. Chemical Equipment

As a material for reactors, heat exchangers, and pumps and valves, it withstands highly corrosive media such as hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids.

3. Machinery and Energy

Processed into shafts, springs, and oilfield drill bit connectors, it offers a balance of strength and corrosion resistance. It is also used in high-temperature components such as boiler feedwater heaters.
